Shooting at Howe Park Leaves Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a gun violence incident that erupted on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park at the time officers were breaking up an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Deputies were first Howe Park Sacramento gunfire dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, additional information came in regarding a possible fight breaking out at the location.

A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, it became clear that a massive group had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Responding units began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding the assembled crowd to vacate the area. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the night. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies swiftly started locating gunshot victims.

The Shooting Victims

When the dust settled, four victims were found to have been shot. Those injured — made up of one woman and three men each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff stated that two had critical injury classifications, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.

Metro Fire Sacramento arrived on scene and helped care for shooting victims at the scene.

Evidence at the Scene

The primary shooting scene seemed to have happened on the Cottage Way corridor near the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel located more spent casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were discovered in the wrought iron fence near the nearby Home Depot. This evidence indicated that a shooter had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives continued working throughout the night.

Suspects Detained

Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
